Check meta description, title tag, and Open Graph length with pixel-accurate Google SERP preview. Free SEO meta tag checker for desktop and mobile snippets.
A free SEO meta tag length checker that validates 6 fields — Title, Meta Description, Open Graph Title, Open Graph Description, Twitter Card Title, Twitter Card Description — against character limits AND pixel-width limits (which is what Google actually truncates by). Live Google SERP preview shows your snippet rendered with Google's real fonts and colors, with pixel-accurate truncation matching desktop and mobile views. Recommendations engine flags missing CTAs, missing year/freshness signals, brand separators, keyword position, and CJK character pixel weight. Exports all tags as ready-to-paste HTML. Pure client-side.
Google's snippet rendering engine treats the title tag and meta description as fixed-width containers — about 580 pixels for the desktop title and 920 pixels for the description. Text that exceeds those widths gets truncated with an ellipsis ("..."). Because letters have different widths in proportional fonts ("W" ≈ 14px, "i" ≈ 4px in Arial 20px), a 60-character title with many wide letters can overflow 580 pixels while a 70-character title with many narrow letters fits comfortably. Tools that count only characters give wrong answers for both edge cases. This tool measures actual pixel widths using HTML canvas with Arial — the same font Google uses — so its limits are exact.
The recommendations panel checks all four and flags missing ones. None of these are required for ranking, but each one nudges click-through which compounds into better rankings over time.
Open Graph (Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, WhatsApp link previews) and Twitter Cards (Twitter / X link previews) have their own length conventions. OG title: 40-60 chars works best — many platforms truncate beyond. OG description: 100-200 chars is the sweet spot for visible preview text. Twitter Card title: max 70 chars. Twitter Card description: max 200 chars. Twitter's rich preview also displays the OG image (if specified) at 1200x675 px (summary_large_image). The tool tracks all six fields plus a separate "image" suggestion (not validated, just listed). For platforms beyond these (Pinterest, Reddit), they typically read OG tags first and fall back to title/meta-description as needed.
Google does not truncate snippets at a character count — it truncates at a pixel width. The letter "i" is much narrower than "W", so a description with many narrow letters fits more characters than one with wide letters. Title tags get cut around 580 pixels (desktop) / 700 pixels (mobile); descriptions around 920 px desktop / 700 px mobile. Character counts are a rough proxy that fails for non-Latin scripts and for letter-mix variations. The pixel measurement here uses a canvas with Google's actual rendering font (Arial / sans-serif).
Aim for 120-160 characters or roughly 920 pixels on desktop. Below 50 chars Google may rewrite your description; above 160 chars (or 920 px) Google truncates with "…". The sweet spot is 140-155 characters that fit the desktop pixel width. For mobile, descriptions truncate around 700 px, so essential information should appear in the first ~120 characters.
Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and other non-Latin characters take more pixels per character in Google's SERP rendering. A 100-character Chinese description may take more horizontal space than a 160-character English one. The tool detects when more than 30% of characters are non-Latin and adjusts pixel-width estimates accordingly. For high-quality non-Latin SEO, manually verify by previewing on the Google preview tab and copying actual rendered output.
Usually yes, but they can differ for strategic reasons. The page title (in <title>) drives Google search ranking and click-through. The OG title (in og:title) drives social sharing previews on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, etc. — where the audience and click-through optimisation may be different. The tool warns when og:title and the main title are very different, since most setups should keep them aligned for SEO consistency.
It uses Google's actual fonts (Arial 20px for desktop title, 14px for description), real colors (#1a0dab title blue, #4d5156 description gray), and pixel-accurate truncation via binary search. The visible result matches what users see in Chrome / Safari Google searches with 95%+ fidelity. Mobile preview matches Google mobile snippets. Differences may occur for special features (rich snippets, FAQ markup, breadcrumb display) which the tool does not preview.
