Generate Z̷̢̛͊a̸͝lgo, glitch, and cursed text with adjustable intensity. Free Unicode glitch text generator with above/below/middle diacritic toggles, presets, and re-roll. Copy and paste.
A free Zalgo / glitch / cursed text generator with adjustable intensity (Mild, Medium, Heavy/Cursed, Extreme), live re-roll, and individual toggles for above, below, and middle (overlay) combining diacritics. Built using Unicode combining marks from the U+0300-U+036F range, each character in your text gets stacked with random diacritics to produce that distinctive corrupted look. Paste-safe across most modern apps — Instagram, Twitter / X, Discord, WhatsApp, Reddit. Some platforms limit excessive combining marks; if Heavy gets stripped, drop to Medium or Mild. Perfect for horror posts, gaming usernames, creepypasta, aesthetic chaos, Halloween captions, and ironic posts.
The Unicode combining diacritics block (U+0300-U+036F) contains around 110 characters that "stick" to the previous letter — accents like grave (̀), acute (́), tilde (̃), umlaut (̈), and obscure linguistic marks. Languages use one or two per letter; Zalgo stacks many more. The tool divides the diacritics into three visual zones — above the line (̀ ́ ̂ ̃), below the line (̥ ̦ ̧ ̨), and middle / overlay (̴ ̵ ̶ ̷ ̸) — and randomly samples from each enabled zone according to your intensity. Mild adds 1-2 marks per character; Extreme adds 10-15 above and below for maximum visual chaos. The base character itself stays unchanged, so the underlying text remains readable to a search engine even when it looks corrupted.
Zalgo works best in visually-driven contexts: Halloween posts, horror genre captions, creepypasta forums, gaming clan names, ironic / aesthetic Instagram bios, Tumblr-style posts. It does not work in functional contexts: usernames that must be searchable, captions that need to be read aloud by accessibility tools, copy that needs to be parsed by automated systems, content posted on platforms that strip combining characters (older SMS, some legacy email clients). It also does not survive translation — Google Translate and similar tools strip combining marks before processing, so multilingual Zalgo posts lose their effect for readers using auto-translate.
Zalgo text — sometimes called glitch, cursed, or corrupted text — is normal text with random Unicode combining diacritics (U+0300-U+036F) stacked on each character. The result looks like the text is "leaking" or "corrupted", evoking horror, creepypasta, or aesthetic chaos. The name comes from a 2009 internet meme based on H.P. Lovecraft-inspired horror comics. The diacritics are real Unicode characters used for accents in many languages — Zalgo just stacks far more than any natural language uses.
Mostly yes, with caveats. Mild and Medium intensities render correctly on every modern platform. Heavy and Extreme may get truncated or filtered on some platforms (Twitter / X aggressively strips excessive combining marks; Instagram caps at around 50 marks per character). Reddit, Discord, and WhatsApp tend to be more permissive. If your Heavy Zalgo gets stripped, drop to Medium for guaranteed compatibility.
Each diacritic is randomly chosen from the available set, so two generations of the same text will look different. This is by design — the random chaos is what makes Zalgo "feel" cursed. Use the Re-Roll button to deliberately re-randomise. If you want a deterministic / repeatable result, the tool memoises within a session so the same intensity + text + toggles + seed produces the same output until you change one.
No — screen readers will read each combining character by name ("LATIN SMALL LETTER H, COMBINING GRAVE ACCENT, COMBINING DIAERESIS, COMBINING TILDE…"), which is utterly unintelligible. Heavy Zalgo can produce hundreds of combining marks, making the text effectively unreadable for low-vision users. Use Zalgo for aesthetic effect only, never for content that needs to be accessible. Avoid it in profile bios that screen readers might encounter.
Zalgo is not malicious — it is just normal text with extra Unicode characters. However, very heavy Zalgo can briefly slow down older browsers or apps because the rendering engine has to compose hundreds of overlapping marks. Modern phones and browsers handle even Extreme Zalgo without issue, but a few legacy SMS gateways may strip combining characters. Some platforms also filter heavy Zalgo as part of anti-spam / anti-troll measures.
