🧾 Invoice Generator

Free multi-country invoice generator — India GST, UAE VAT, US. Multiple templates, logo upload, live preview, instant PDF download. No signup.

What is Invoice Generator?

A fully offline invoice generator with three country presets — India (GST with CGST/SGST/IGST split and HSN codes), United Arab Emirates (FTA-compliant Tax Invoice with TRN + 5% VAT), and United States (flexible sales tax per state). Two professional templates (Modern with accent color, Classic serif), logo upload, configurable header/footer text, line-item discounts, global discount, shipping charges, bank or UPI details, notes, terms, signatory, and amount in words in the Indian numbering system (lakh/crore) or international system. Everything runs in your browser — the PDF is generated locally using a vector-quality engine, so text stays crisp, and your invoice data never leaves the device. Drafts auto-save to local storage so refreshing the page won't wipe your work.

How to Use

  1. Pick your country — India (GST), UAE (VAT), or United States
  2. Choose a template (Modern or Classic) and an accent colour; upload your logo
  3. Fill in your company details, client details, and line items
  4. Set tax rate per line, add invoice-level discount, shipping, and bank / UPI details
  5. Review the live PDF preview on the right and click Download PDF

What a legally valid invoice must contain — by country

Each of the three country presets enforces the fields that country's tax authority requires. Missing any of these can make your invoice non-compliant and, for businesses registered for GST or VAT, can mean you lose input tax credit.

India — Tax Invoice under GST

  • Supplier's GSTIN and name and address
  • Recipient's GSTIN (if registered) and address
  • Unique, sequential invoice number
  • Date of issue
  • HSN code (goods) or SAC code (services) per line
  • Place of Supply — determines whether CGST+SGST (intra-state) or IGST (inter-state) applies
  • Quantity, unit, rate, discount, taxable value, GST rate, and tax amount per line
  • Whether tax is payable on reverse charge
  • Signature of supplier or authorised signatory

UAE — Tax Invoice under Federal Decree-Law No. 8 of 2017

  • The words "Tax Invoice" displayed prominently
  • Supplier's name, address, and TRN (Tax Registration Number)
  • Recipient's name, address, and TRN (if registered)
  • Sequential invoice number and issue date
  • Description, quantity, unit price, discount, tax rate, and VAT amount per line
  • Total amount payable in AED
  • For simplified Tax Invoices (value under AED 10,000 to unregistered buyers), buyer details are optional

United States — there is no federal invoice format

Unlike India and the UAE, the US has no federal VAT / GST, and the IRS does not mandate an invoice format. Each state handles sales tax independently. A professional US invoice should still include seller name and address (optionally EIN), buyer details, invoice number, dates, itemised line items, applicable sales tax, and total. The generator produces this structure and lets you set the tax rate to match your state / city combination.

Why GST, VAT, and Sales Tax behave differently

These three tax systems look similar on an invoice but work very differently under the hood, which is why the generator handles them separately.

GST (India) is a destination-based tax that splits into two halves when the buyer is in the same state as the seller — CGST (Central) and SGST (State), each collecting half the headline rate. Ship the goods across state lines and it switches to a single IGST at the full headline rate, which the central government later shares with the destination state. This is why the India preset asks for Place of Supply — it determines which tax labels appear on the invoice. Rates go 0 / 3 / 5 / 12 / 18 / 28 %, with 18 % being the default for most services and standard-rate goods.

VAT (UAE) is much simpler: a single standard rate of 5 % on most taxable supplies. Certain categories (exports outside GCC, international transport, specified healthcare and education) are zero-rated, and others (residential rent, some financial services) are fully exempt. Because there is only one rate and no intra/inter distinction, the UAE preset hides the GST-specific fields and shows VAT as one line.

US Sales Tax is levied at the state and often city level, collected only on the final sale to the end consumer (not at each stage of the supply chain the way VAT / GST is). Rates vary from 0 % (Oregon, Montana, New Hampshire, Delaware) to over 10 % in some California and Illinois municipalities. B2B services in most states are not taxable at all. Because it's not a pass-through tax, there's no concept of "input tax credit" — which is why US buyers do not typically include an EIN on invoices the way GST and VAT buyers include their tax registration number.

Choosing between the Modern and Classic templates

Both templates produce a single-page A4 PDF with the same underlying data — the difference is typographic register.

Modern uses Helvetica, a bold accent colour on the header band, the "TAX INVOICE" label in the accent colour, soft grey panels for the party details, and a coloured grand-total bar. Pick it for consultancies, SaaS businesses, creative agencies, and any brand where the accent colour on the letterhead tells the story. Works well with a logo that has strong colour.

Classic uses Times Roman, a double-rule banner at the top, tabular columns with thin dividers, and no colour accents. Pick it for accountancies, legal practices, traditional trading businesses, and any environment where you want the invoice to feel like a 1990s accountant-prepared document — the kind a purchase ledger clerk recognises instantly. Also the safer choice if your printer is black-and-white.

The logo, accent colour, header text, footer text, and payment fields are shared across both templates — switch templates any time without losing your data.

Privacy and what this tool does not do

Invoices contain sensitive commercial information — client names, addresses, tax IDs, bank details. Everything in this generator runs client-side. That means: your logo is read by the browser with the FileReader API and converted to a data URL that lives only in the browser tab; form fields live in React state; a draft is saved to localStorage (your own browser's storage) so refreshing the page doesn't wipe your work; and the PDF itself is rendered in the browser using a JavaScript PDF engine — nothing is transmitted to any server at any point.

What this tool does not do (and why):

  • Generate Indian IRN / QR code — requires authenticated government-portal calls that cannot be made from a public free tool.
  • Digitally sign with a DSC — requires your physical USB token or a signing service integration.
  • Store a client library or invoice history — that needs a backend and authentication. Current drafts are single-invoice; planned for a future paid tier.
  • Send the invoice by email — download the PDF and send it from your own email client. This is deliberate: sending from your domain preserves deliverability and looks professional.
  • File GST / VAT returns — this is an invoice-creation tool, not a tax-filing tool. Use it alongside your accounting software (Zoho Books, Tally, QuickBooks, Xero) or with your CA.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this generate a GST-compliant e-invoice with IRN / QR code?

No — generating a legally-valid Indian e-invoice requires authenticated calls to the government IRP portal using your business GSTIN credentials, which a free public tool cannot do. What this generates is a format-compliant Tax Invoice PDF with GSTIN, HSN/SAC, CGST/SGST/IGST split, and amount-in-words, which is exactly what businesses below the ₹5 crore e-invoicing threshold need. For e-invoicing IRN, submit the PDF through your accounting software or GST Suvidha Provider.

Is this FTA compliant for the UAE?

It produces a Tax Invoice with all fields required by UAE FTA: "Tax Invoice" wording, issue date, sequential invoice number, seller and buyer TRN, description, quantity, unit price, discount, VAT rate, VAT amount, and total. For the upcoming Peppol-based e-invoicing phase (rolling out 2026), you will need an accredited service provider — this tool produces the source document, not the Peppol exchange.

How does tax work for US invoices?

US sales tax varies by state and municipality, so we let you pick the rate per line item (0%, 4%, 6%, 7%, 8%, 8.875%, 9.5%, 10.25% cover the common bands). If you sell services or are not registered for sales tax, use 0%.

Is my invoice data uploaded anywhere?

No. All data, the logo you upload, and the PDF generation happen entirely in your browser. A draft is saved to your browser's local storage so you can refresh and resume, but nothing is transmitted.

Can I save multiple invoices?

The current draft auto-saves. For a full invoice history, client library, and recurring invoices, a paid plan with backend storage is planned. For now, download PDFs and keep them in your own filing system.

Why is the amount-in-words in Indian lakh / crore format?

India uses a different digit grouping (1,00,00,000 = 1 Crore = 10 Million). We generate amount-in-words in the correct system for the selected country — Rupees / Paise with Lakh and Crore for India, Dirhams / Fils for UAE, Dollars / Cents for US.
